Use the Acronym “HISTORY”

H – Host the new pilot, positively welcome them and introduce them to others present. Are they interested in joining SPHGC?

I  – Interview ask their name, where they are from, do they know anyone local, what is their flying certification and their SAFA membership. Use the SAFA app and ask them to put their name into the search area.

S – Safety safety first site briefing, the what, when, where of setup, launch, flight, landing zone and emergency landing zones, pack-up zones. Variations of the site in different weather conditions.

T – Tour visit all the key zones to look from different perspectives.

O – OMG what has and can go wrong, hazards, common mistakes.

R – Right Now conditions for flying today, and how conditions may change. What forecast and observation tools do we use for this site.

Y – eYe keep an eye on them. Keep in radio contact if necessary.
