Long Reef Weather Station

The Long Reef Weather Station was installed in 2018 thanks to the support provided by the NSW Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association and the Northern Beaches Council.  In an effort to minimise the impact to the aesthetic of the beautiful Long Reef Point, the weather station was installed on an existing sign pole.  The weather station records very accurately the weather conditions on the ridge for the NE Long Reef launch but the wind speed and direction for winds from the SSE through to the SSW are impacted by its location slightly over the SE facing ridge line.

When used in conjunction with other wind observation tools for the area, the Long Reef Weather station is a good indicator of local flying conditions on the northern beaches. Click on the image above for the full view of the weather station.
