01-03-2026 09:00 AM – 07-03-2026 05:00 PM
Corryong Paragliding are hosting the Australian Sports Class Championships 2026. Corryong is located just a few thermal glides from Mt Kosciuszko the highest mountain in Australia where historically the very first Australian Paragliding Nationals were hosted not far from here in Thredbo 1990. Back then the first competition task was flown from the top of Mt Kosciuszko at 2200 metres. From on top of Mt Elliot you can see the Western face of the Main Range and in the early Spring and late Autumn its peaks are often still covered in snow. This Sports class event will be a SAFA sanction level AA / CAT2 competition with 360 ladder Points available. Its aimed at pilots who are new to xc racing through to experienced inland intermediate and advanced rated pilots. For Pilots new to competition, there will be a focus on mentoring by experienced pilots to help make the event a highly positive experience. The winner of this event will be crowned the Australian sports class champion. For details go to: https://airtribune.com/australian-sports-class-championships-2026/info/details

October 2025 Club Meeting
Harbord Diggers
07:00 PM – 08:30 PM
Here we are right on the cusp of the season kicking off for paragliding and hang gliding again. A good time to think about getting back in the air. Safely, cautiously and gradually. We all experience skill fade in the off season, unless you have been flying around Europe of course. However, on top of that there are several considerations that we should take into account to ensure we are setting the conditions for a safe and successful flight.  Roger Stanford our CFI will talk about these considerations for getting back in the air; and Garry Taylor our Club President will talk about his recent accident and the contributing factors that led up to it. Some important and instructive lessons around circumstances, environment and psychology that we can all consider and take on board regardless of experience. Meeting will start from 7pm at the Harbord Diggers on Wednesday 29th October in the Curl Curl Room (Last room down the hallway to the left after entry). Zoom Details will be provided for those wishing to attend online.

This 3-day Clinic (run by Roger Stanford, SkyOut Paragliding)  is aimed to introduce and improve pilots' inland skill level and progress onto cross country flying.  The course begins with the focus on thermalling skills and coring effectively, keeping the glider balanced in flight. This then moves into the XC lite stage, flying XC tasks around the mountains with our guiding team. Included is theory and presentations on thermalling, decision making, instrument use, equipment maintenance and reserve packing and group retrieve service.   We will aim for 2 flights/day, potentially 3 flights if the majority of the group bomb out during the thermal/XC flight of the day.   There will also be tandems available for those wishing to thermal/XC in the tandem for more 1 on 1 coaching and instruction (we can't offer everyone this service as it is a max of 1/day). This is open to all pilot levels and aims to improve your inland flying skills.  Back up dates are 25 to 27 Nov. The XC clinic total cost is $600 per pilot* (with a $150 deposit required to book your spot) For bookings and to make your deposit email Roger@skyoutparagliding.com    *Remember SPHGC members can claim for a $150 NSWHPA skills development subsidy through the club ! See detailed course information points below. The course is structured to include essential skills and support to develop your flying and XC Skills. Morning briefings on weather and horse race debriefs from previous days flights. Thermal and XC presentations x 3.  Instrument setup presentation and guide to instrument use. Daily weather briefs and XC tasks around the valley. Transport from LZ to launch and retrieves from flights. Aim for 2 flights/day -  morning flight to determine glide ratio in nil wind, trim speed/min sink/accelerated flight in nil wind, descent rate (at trim/min sink/accelerated) in nil wind, rear glide performance and rear riser steering/active flying afternoon thermal and XC task with multiple gaggles (depending on experience level) with XC tasks to provide intro to instrument use, task setting and gaggle flying. XC guides from the Sky Out team to help pilots find the next thermal and to provide overwatch on pilots' position and potential risks. Immediate post flight analysis and progression report for low airtime pilots.
