2025 - 7 Summits Challenge: Event Rules
2025 SPHGC Seven Summits’ Rules
The event aims to promote the hike and fly activity and develop camaraderie amongst the HnF community. It is not a competition.
To encourage participation, there will be generous prizes.
- The following are hike and fly summits (with their international analogies):
- Stanwell (Kilimanjaro)
- Elliot (Everest)
- North Brother (Aconcagua)
- Lake St Clair (Vinson)
- Mystic (Denali)
- Spring Hill (Elbrus)
- Cook Terrace (Kosciusko)
- The summits can be conquered in any order.
- There is no entry fee for the event, but you must be financial member financial member of SHGPC before you commence the event to be eligible for the prizes and glory.

- The event is open from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025. You can commence the event at any time throughout the year. To register email whereisdog@hotmail.com with your name.
- A leader board will be updated on the SHGPC website.
- The pilot is responsible for all aspects of the activity, including ensuring they are rated for the site or correctly supervised, abide by all local regulations, and check with the local club website for the latest information/site guide.
- The pilot must commence the climb from the centre of the landing field and can take any legal route to the launch. The traverse up the slope must be by your own foot power only. The pilot will carry all gear for the flight on the hike.
- The pilot must land in the landing field they commenced the walk.
- The purists will hike and then fly. The 'nouveau pilot' is permitted to fly first, then re-walk to launch provided they carry all the gear they flew with and the walk-up commences immediately after landing.
- The pilot is responsible for keeping a track log of the walk-up and the flight down. IGC track logs are preferred, but remember, most instruments will only start tracking when they sense a flight has commenced and may need to be manually started for the hike.
- Once the flight is completed, email whereisdog@hotmail with the pilot name, SAF number, summit name, date of conquest, hike time, flight time and IGC (or equivalent file). Feel free to include photos which will go on the website update.
- The results will be updated online on the SHGPC site and announced at each SHGPC meeting.
- All pilots completing all 7 summits will enter the grand prize draw at the February 2026 club meeting.
- There will be multiple categories of prizes, including fastest /slowest ascent, shortest timeframe and others as decided by the event committee. There may or may not be a unique t-shirt or hat for all successful pilots.
- Paragliding involves inherent risks. Participation is undertaken at the participant's own risk, and they accept full responsibility for any injury or damage that may occur.
- The pilot acknowledges and agrees that they retain full responsibility for undertaking this event, including but not limited to:

- The pilot retains full responsibility for undertaking the paragliding activity, including but not limited to ensuring they are physically and mentally fit to participate. They must assess their own capability to engage in the activity safely.
- Making all decisions related to take-off, flight operations, and landing.
- Complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Participants must ensure their paragliding licenses are valid and that their equipment is complete and airworthy in accordance with Australian aviation regulations.
